Thyme in a clay pot by Linn Arvidsson

Thyme in a clay pot

It’s thymol that gives the herb its scent, but it is history that gives it its magic.
In ancient Egypt it was used for embalming. In ancient Greek it was burnt as incense in the temples to give courage. And in the European Middle Ages thyme was placed on coffins during funerals to assure passage into the next life.
Not bad for a humble little herb.
